With the continuous development of rapid urbanization, urban residents begin to chase life comfort in higher quality. Cities not only are population colonies, but also material carries providing favorable and suitable living space for residents. This dissertation takes Zhengdong New District and Luonan New District which are the portal new districts planed and constructed simultaneously, and two types of forms-habitability of Annular and Grid urban space as study objects and contents, respectively. Using multiple methods such as Investigation Study, Statistic Analysis and Semantic Differential to study and analyze similarities and differences of space forms in aforementioned two cities from the macro-level of landscape patterns of city; the middle-level of urban axis, corridor, city wall and skyline and so on; the micro-level of city space function layout, road network structure, symbol space, service facilities and urban green land; respectively. Meanwhile, based on assessing system of city habitability, four groups which include eight regional samples with the characteristic of pairwise correlation are selected. Semantic Differential Method is employed to obtain SD psychological values from psychological assessment and objective influences that are quantitatively analyzed to learn merits and demerits of city space forms inside of residents.City space habitability should meet three characteristics, they are as follows:(1) Regionalism: comprehensive relationship between people and environment;(2) Sociality: city space provides service for ordinary citizens at all levels of society;(3) Epochal character: “all-weather” service mode transformation of city space forms induced by information revolution. On the basis of aforementioned three characteristics, contrastively analyzing developing appearance of city new district under annular and grid urban space forms from two aspects with regard to city space form and city spirit; the diversity and richness of city space function are also analyzed from the perspectives of urban residents; and such factors as safety and comfort of city space have effects on resident spatial cognition and the city space habitability. The dissertation discussed two supports for city space habitability and the interrelation between city space form and city spirit. After that, several conclusions are obtained:(1) based on the organic principle in the natural environment which should be abided by new district construction, natural elements make artificial systems and external environment symbiotic as far as possible can be considered;(2) “multi-functional hybrid” city space mode can be used if providing daily life service for residents;(3) small plot area development can be used if providing multiple selections for residents;(4) “green corridor” construction is capable to keep connection with the ecosystem of old districts;(5) all-sided service facilities should be provided if comprehensively considering the comfort and safety of resident behaviors;(6) designing clear and continuous new construction strategies about “characteristic” at all levels in the space if seeking for city humanistic spiritual characteristics. The conclusions in this dissertation can provide, to a certain extent, reasonable theoretical supports for urban district constructions.
