Digital Camouflage is not only an important military camouflage technology, but also a common and effective means to against military reconnaissance which is widely equipped in many countries’ army. It has vital research significance and military application value that how to design digital camouflage texture with high quality and ability of anti-reconnaissance. In this paper, the main work is around the two main research topics of digital camouflage which are design and evaluation of digital camouflage.(1) Based on the actual print process of digital camouflage, a new design method that generates digital camouflage textures by iteratively overlapping pattern templates is proposed. On the basis of camouflage spot distribution rules, a pattern templates database is designed. A pattern templates combination algorithm based on the greedy algorithm is put forwards on this database to generate camouflage textures. The experimental results show that the digital camouflage design algorithm proposed in this paper can not only ensure the camouflage effect, but also enhance the design efficiency at the same time.(2) Camouflage evaluation can not only effectively judge the quality of a camouflage design method, but also optimize the camouflage design process as a feedback. Considering the perception principle of human visual system for digital camouflage, saliency is introduced into the camouflage evaluation and a saliency detection algorithm based on multiple features fusion is also proposed. In addition, we introduce a new feature based on straight edge and propose a new digital camouflage evaluation model based on the fusion of saliency and straight edge feature. A subjective evaluation method is also designed to be the baseline of our objective evaluation model. The experimental results show that our camouflage evaluation model is accord with human visual perception mechanism, and is an effective digital camouflage evaluation model.
