The abrasion, peeling, roundness and abnormal wear of trains’ wheels have being more and more severer with the acceleration and overload in the rail transport. Especially the rim circumferential crack which is very serious occur frequently can endanger traffic safety directly. Therefore, a fast, reliable, secure automatic inspection system of high-speed trains’ wheels is becoming a big goal for everyone.In the automatic detection system of high-speed trains’ wheels, the efficiency of system is related with that whether the compression of wheels detection data is appropriate or not, the function of system that can forecast the defect trend and the life of wheels is related with that whether the store of wheels detection data is reasonable or not.This paper offers the overall design of the automatic detection system of high-speed trains’ wheels based on the detailed needs analysis of system. It elaborates the design of the bracket mechanical structure, the probe array and ultrasonic excitation and acquisition circuit in the hardware architecture, and the design of the operating procedures and the user interface in the software architecture emphatically.This paper gives an efficient threshold compression algorithm based on IWT and the optimized traditional threshold compression algorithm which can solve problems that the complexity, the poor real time and the existence of floating-point coefficients of the first generation threshold compression algorithm. The algorithm is used in wheels detection data which gets good compression effect.This paper researches the feature of several typical file formats in LabVIEW. It deep analyzes the advantage of TDMS that can be the format of the store of wheels detection data. It designs a storage method which is suitable for wheels detection data, and realizes in the software of system. It also researches the method that can manage wheels detection data totally in the system including the generation and inquiry of detection records and the playback and analysis of detection data.
