With the continuous development of science and technology, nowadays positioning system on the moving objects in road network plays more and more roles in people’s traveling. Location update and map-matching are two key technologies for positioning system. However, because of the increasing number of moving objects in road network, non-matured positioning technologies and complex network structure, the communication cost is large and the positioning precision accuracy degrades.Based on the investigation of the domestic and foreign research, this paper proposes the scheme to optimize the location update and map-matching. For the location update, we propose to the communication update strategy based on groups. Based on the distance location of the former single moving objects, the correlations between transmission cost and communication overhead will be leveraged in a better way. For map matching, we first obtain the desired route by the offline data mining, and the accuracy is improved by taking advantage of the pre-computed result when the online process spatio-temperal analysis is performed.The main contribution of this paper is as follows. First, we propose a new communication strategy based on groups, utilize the free communication function by vehicles, search the position updates based on the surrounding moving objects and reduce the communication overhead. Second, we utilize a lot of offline trajectory data in analyzing and exploring the information, and improve the accuracy by using the probability distribution of offline paths during the matching process. Third, we establish a location update model embedded with lots of moving objects and imitate the communication process of moving objects through road network. Fourth, we do the trials by using the actual road networks and path information for three cities and offer the testing consequences.Experiments show that the implemented systems can track the moving objects more precisely with reduced communications cost, verifying the feasibility and effectiveness of our method.
