With the rapid growth of trunk highway mileages, the constant improvement of national highway network as well as the vehicle ownership number continuous increase, the road network is under more and more loads, especially during weekends and holidays when there are surge in traffic demand, mass group travels and the extension of duration of traffic peak, which results in increasingly severe contradiction between supply and demand of trunk highway network. Great concern has been drawn by people from all walks of life due to such issues as the trunk highway network congestion and emergencies as well as their affiliated problems like traffic safety, transport efficiency, energy consumption and environmental pollution.The trunk highway network operation management needs to be on the basis of a grasp of its real-time operation and future development. The so-called regional trunk highway network traffic situation evaluation and analysis is referred to an analysis and prediction about the real-time operation of trunk highway network operation in some region targeted at providing traffic directors with scientific and efficient ways to be clear about the traffic state and performance as to achieve rational allocation of highway network under limited transport resources. This research in terms of the increasingly frequent traffic jam and emergencies in the trunk highway network establishes a evaluation mode and fundamentally studies and establish prediction techniques for trunk highway network traffic operation and development trends from micro and macro level through learning domestic and international advanced technologies and experiences in trunk highway operation and management and considering needs of our national trunk highway management.First, the thesis took the historical data as research object, established a road network model according to road network charging station information and developed an analysis of trunk highway network transport characteristics, which laid a foundation for model study. Second, based on highway historical OD charging data, the paper made a split processing for historical transport data to figure out the trunk highway traffic demands on different spaces and periods. Combined with road planning transport capacity, the thesis calculated the road actual traffic capacity and developed an operation analysis of the trunk highway network. Third, the paper built a virtual network on the computer according to the road network topology, restored the historical data to the virtual road network based on different periods and showed the real-time road network state through software model dynamics. Finally, the thesis made a simulation. Under the situation when emergencies or unexpected accidents led to the weakening of road capacity, the traffic flow was reallocated according to transport demands in troubled road section, the traffic situation was then evaluated by computer simulation and a transportation emergency situation assessment model was established.
