In winter, snowfall has the characteristics of lasting a long period, a large amount of snow and a wide range in the most northern regions of China. The snow without clearing in time forms a hard solid ice-snow with surface ice by the means of vehicles and pedestrians repeatedly rolling and temperature plunged sharply, which will reduce the friction coefficient of pavement and brings great inconvenience to vehicles and people. According to the relevant results of global survey in all large and medium-sized cities, the traffic accident caused by ice-snow on urban roads accounted for more than 35% of the total amount of traffic accidents in winter. Ice-snow affects seriously normal life order of people on the road and has been recognized worldwide as city harm. Therefore, it is very important to develop the new, rapid, efficient and environment friendly road ice-snow clearing equipment.The paper analyzes the physical properties of compacted ice-snow on road, relevant parameters of pavement compaction ice-snow on road were summarized, the propagation law was obtained about force and crack in ice-snow internal when the shear failure through triaxial test and disc ice-snow clearing test, tool optimal spacing was determined in the process of ice-snow clearing.Development of milling type snow removal prototype, the working principle and basic structure design of the prototype were described. The rationality of assembly relations among the parts and the feasibility of designing scheme on snow removal prototype were verified through Pro/E three dimensional solid modeling and virtual assembly. The prototype was conducted to movement simulation analysis by ADAMS. The working state and various components movement state of the prototype were simulated when clearing compacted icesnow on road. The key components of prototype parameters were optimized through test. Snow removal test of prototype provides a theoretical basis for the research of snow removal technology.
