This study firstly analyzed the history and state-of-the-art of internationally and locally commercial aircraft cockpit design by using field measurements and literature review to understand the spatial dimensions and functional layout of large cockpits. Then the paper collected some pictures of aircraft and cockpit produced by major aircraft manufacturers in the world. Moreover, according to the similarity of cockpit shaping, the paper performed cluster analysis and multidimensional scaling analysis on the 66 commercial aircraft cockpit models from 12 international manufacturers, then we picked out 10 feature lines from those cockpit models.According to the extracted main features of wire frames, the paper analyzed design characteristics and differences of aircraft cockpit from those major manufacturers. By using emotional engineering and semantic differential methods, 10 cockpit models were evaluated, and two of the most characteristic cockpits were picked out as representative cases for average shaping. We used HTML to establish an adjustable modeling platform to simulate the average shape. By presetting main parameters in the modeling platform, it can generate combinations with different feature lines. The combinations with feature lines generated by the platform can be used as basis for modeling, and a reference for sketching. Based on a finished sketch, the paper draw a 2D renderings, and then a 3D digital model based on the corrections from the 2D renderings. After the 3D model modification was completed, we made a solid model. The solid model can be used for evaluating and testing. The methods in this paper are based on case study, which investigates existing mature cockpits, The paper obtained sufficiently perceptual knowledge that provides a reference for designing new cockpits.
