Gabled frame is a typical light-weighted steel structure,broadly used in China. Some steel structure buildings with light Panel systems exceed in crane tonnage restricted by <Code of Design of Steel Structures>(GB50017-2003), which steel weight has greatly increased.Based on this computation result, the 8 series of 9 specimens are designed as parametric finite element analysis modal.Whole process parameter analysis of steel portal frame with tapered H-section members under static loading has been performed. According to the results, such as load-displacement curves, elastic load-carrying capacity, ultimate load- carrying capacity, the local deformation, the development of plasticity etc, the effects of parameters including the area of beam cross section, the area of column cross section and crane load are discussed. Analysis results are: steel structure buildings with light panel systems exceed in crane tonnage, but not more than 50 ton, intermediate crane, is referred to use the deflection limit of <Technical specification for Steel Structure of Light-weight Buildings with gabled frames>.Whole process parameter analysis of steel portal frame with tapered H-section members under cyclic lateral loading has been performed. Analysis results are: the deformation concentrated in the beam-column connections and column base, and at the same place local buckling appeared which led to the final failure of frames. Compared with the area of beam cross section, the effects of the area of column cross section is much more obvious. The portal frame with 20 T traversing crane, which ultimate load-carrying capacity has greatly increased, otherwise the differences between the portal frame with 20 ton or 32 ton traversing crane is limited. According to this, in the view of many effects to the drift, steel structure buildings with light panel systems exceed in crane tonnage, but not more than 50 ton, intermediate crane, is referred to use a experience H/400.Above all, according to the results of FEM, the design approach, which combine light-weighted steel structure code and the steel structure code is suggested, can be as reference for the design and application of a portal frame structures with heavy cranes.
