The development of the portal crane at present tends to be more large-scale,high-speed,automated and intelligent. And people are also increasingly raising theirrequirements on the performance of cranes. They not only do require the cranes’ lightweight, good rigidity and large operating range, but also has a high demand on theoperating speed of the crane trolley and carts. At the same time, they do wish thecranes have good operational safety and work efficiency when working underdifferent cases. All of the said above make high requirements for the mechanicalproperties of cranes. In this context, this paper will first introduce the basic knowledge about thedevelopment and structure of the portal crane. Then the paper takes the MQ1625portal crane as the research object, using finite element software ANSYS to do itsstatic stress analysis. Firstly, the finite element modeling of the crane’s metalstructures will be done, then the constraints and the loads will be added on the modelto simulation different working conditions of the crane. And the MQ1625portalcrane’s models will be solved to show their static stress performance in differentconditions, which will help to find the weak parts and structures of the crane duringwork. Finally this paper will make some suggestions for the improving andmaintaining of the portal crane’ metal structure,to ensure that it can work in a moresafe and stable way in different cases.Using the finite element analysis software ANSYS to do the modeling and analysis inthis paper is mainly because, this kind of modeling and analysis have a relative highsimulation accuracy, which is very helpful to the engineering practice. And this canalso improve the designing of the portal cranes’ statics structure, making the structureof the crane more reasonable. As a result, it will then meet the society’s urgentrequirement for good development of the portal cranes.
