Currently, pavement cold milling cutting with high efficiency and work quality, become the main way to clear the existing asphalt pavement in the maintenance of asphalt pavement. The research on cutting mechanism of asphalt pavement cold milling is of fundamental significance for the theory of asphalt pavement cold milling and the development of technology, the improvement of milling machine design and the working efficiency of the milling machine.The tool movement of the asphalt pavement cold milling operations, the mixer of soil stabilizer, the shearer and shield tunneling machine belongs to the same rotary cutting, but the operating media and operating mechanism completely different form each other. Firstly, compared to explore a variety of asphalt concrete constitutive model, JC constitutive model is finally selected to characterize the material properties. Secondly, through the principle theoretical studies of the construction and operation of milling rotor, it is deduced the tip trajectory and force expression of tool, and MATLAB is used to describe the variation of the tip trajectory of the tool and tip speed and the variation of parameters with different tools for cutting force. It takes many times to carry on the simulation of the model under the different cutting speeds and depth in ABAQUS software environment, then got the results about stress and strain, the temperature and as well as the cutting damage energy’s diffusion. The stress is concentrated on the tool tip which is the maximum stress, equivalent strain has little change along with the cutting velocity and the value fluctuates about 1.5, which is related to use shear failure criteria. Cutting speed has a more significant effect on cutting temperature. Then it is got the variation of the cutting temperature and cutting depth, which increases tool wear, and chip brought the heat causes damage energy increasing. The cutting depth has a more significant effect on cutting forces, so it is necessary to carry out the reasonable in-depth study for the cutting speed and cutting depth.The numerical techniques is introduced to simulate the process of actual virtual operation in this paper, which can be instantaneously understood the dynamics process of the entire cutting with the material properties taken into consideration in the ideal state and can be obtained variable nephogram and data which have the certain significance of reference in actual conditions. Simultaneously, it makes prediction or verification for the analysis of the operation mechanism, and puts forward new ideas on in-depth study of the cutting mechanism. As well as, simulation analysis also has great significance for the selection of tool design, tool material and cutting speed and depth in cutting process.
