Along with the urbanization process speeding up, the fast and efficientmaintenance of urban road is particularly important. And the pothole is the one ofmain problems of asphalt road, it will directly affect the comfort and safety oftransportation, which requires the maintenance equipment must be flexible, easy tooperate, and the pavement repaired has a good quality and a long service life.Therefore, the development of new milling machine can meet the need to repair thesmall area pothole of high grade highway and other urban road in time and at arelatively low cost to achieve greater benefits, which has important practicalsignificance and good social economic benefits.Based on professor Song Yonggang’s invention patent <a kind of asphaltpavement milling machine for circular pothole>, this paper analyses the existingmilling machine′s structure, function,principle and designs a reasonable millingdevice of the asphalt pavement milling machines for circular pothole. This paper alsoexplains its main structure and working principle, and determines two mainconnection parameters in the milling machine:the tapered thread connected withmilling spindle and cutter plate,the single-reduction gearbox connected with hydraulicmotor and milling spindle, also verifies the two important parameters. The cutting toolin milling device layout is one of the two main factors which influence the millingquality and efficiency. Through analyzing the cutter wear and use, this paper comes tothe conclusion that cutter′s layout and its installation angle are the main factorsaffecting the service life of cutting tools. Based on the above conclusion, the maincutter and side cutter′s layout and installation Angle which are suitable for the asphaltpavement milling machines for circular pothole are designed. And the milling speed isanother main factor which influence the milling quality and efficiency.By analysingthe format of Kinetics of milling cutter head in finite element analysis and referenceconfigurations, damage mechanism of the asphalt roadbed, set up the finite elementmodel of cutter head milling the asphalt roadbed.And by setting different rotatingspeed and feed rate, using ANSYS Workbench making the Kinetics of finite element simulation about cutter head milling asphalt roadbed processing, obtain the bestmilling speed and feed rate.The research results: designs a reasonable milling device of the asphaltpavement milling machines for circular pothole, and determines the cutters layout andits installation angle.Then by setting the different rotating speed and feed speed tosimulate the dynamic process of cutting head milling asphalt pavement, come to theconclusion that the rotational speed of the milling cutter heads are recommended50to100r/min and the feed rate are recommended1.5to2.5mm/s.
