Currently the morphology of metropolitan city has changed, it developed into the net work node localization model instead of traditional single center model. And the new d evelopment leads the land use around the suburbs into a fundamental change. At presen t, that the specific changes of metropolitan suburban commuters are not clear, but the la w has an important reference for the regional planning, city traffic, track traffic plannin g.This paper based on the research of commuting characteristics and spatial distributio n of metropolitan suburban residents as the center, to influence the track of metropolitan suburb area and highway impact of commuting characteristics of typical samples of the r esidential area as the breakthrough point, using OD data based on the data of residents i n Nanjing city in 2012.Firstly expounds the basic concept of commuting, accessibility, job housing balance, the spatial distribution of suburban commuter, commuting characteristics and structure, an d the influence factors of commuting behavior theory. And introducing the concept of co mmuting vector according to the research, proposed commuter vector containing commuti ng time, distance and direction of the four dimensions, efficiency.Using factor analysis and K-means cluster analysis method, the suburb of Nanjing re sidents with the personal attributes, family social economic attributes and attribute clusteri ng, found the commuters are divided into four different groups reasonably, commuting wi th commuting vector of the respective characteristics; Analysis and comparison from the f our dimensions of the classification of commuting vector rail transit and highway affect r egional typical residential area, the difference of different residential location of commuter s in commuting vector attribute on the cross; Through the comparative analysis found alo ng the rail and highway along the obvious difference of different categories of the popul ation distribution of sample area, rail transportation along the III, IV groups, along the tr unk road in I, II group.Finally, we establish models for the metropolitan suburban residential location choice and the commuter traffic modes. Based on different commuting group class choice utilit y maximization, establish disaggregate model. Assumptions consistent employment location,under the condition of residential location in 10-20 km and > 20 km envelops, rail tran sit and bus influence area, compared with other methods of transportation way showed a greater advantage. The difference is that rail travel in the orbit traffic impact area with the increase of commuting distance, commuting time elastic transformation become more sensitive; In the long distances commuter travel, bus and car commuter travel showed a larger difference, the former is more sensitive to changes in commuting time elasticity, while the latter in both cases are consistent, and with the increase of commuting distance to time the sensitivity of the elastic performance is not obvious; But in along the main road, with the increase of commuting distance, rail transit commuter travel time elasticit y increased significantly, change in > 20 km area, residential location choice and commut er rail transit for commuter travel the greatest attraction.
