As the main link of Western Sichuan and Southeast Tibet, the ancient tea-horse road from Sichuan to Tibet has played an important role in developing and transmitting national history and culture of Western Sichuan. It is not only a functional traffic route, but also a wealth of "cultural corridor". It is beneficial for the generation and development of residential settlements in the intersection area by its long duration, wide range of space, cultural influence and purposeful function. It has promoted a series of the formation of the town along the road in Kangding, Ganzi and so on; it also has created a number of typical architecture, such as temples and Guozhuang; it has developed a distinctive cultural lines. The ancient tea-horse road from Sichuan to Tibet is not only the important carrier of ethnic culture for Han and Tibetan, but also the medium of transmitting architectural culture and construction technology.Based on a large number of field research, ancient architectural survey and historical collection, this paper systematically studies the formation history, transmission lines, causes and distribution of settlement, types and characteristics of residential and construction technology of the ancient tea-horse road from Sichuan to Tibet. Considering the ancient tea-horse road as the clue, this paper studies the focus of urban settlements and residential construction that is business immigration channel and unique life style and the dynamic influence of national culture fusion history to man-land relationship. This paper reveals traditional settlements of cultural routes and the transition process and expression of architectural form. This paper summarizes the richness and transitional feature showed from the traditional residential buildings of Tibetan areas in Western Sichuan, which to a certain extent, illuminates the regularity penetrated into settlements and residential buildings of these areas by the Han culture.This article through four parts, deeply analyzes one by one.The first part analyzes the historical and cultural value by reviewing the formation history and transmission route of the ancient tea-horse road. The second part analyzes the formation history and background, distribution, characteristic and types of settlements along the route in detail by nature, politics, religion, economic factors of different periods. Taking Kangding as the research object, the article divides the stage in the form evolution of the Kangding urban space, and analyzes street space form of the historical period in kangding. Combined with the research achievements of The Sichuan Tibetan Residence, the third part researches deeply the types, flat shape, spatial arrangement, structure construction and elevation modeling of residential buildings along the ancient tea-horse road. On this basis, comparing the different regional residence research, the article further improves the research content of residential buildings. As a summary, the fourth part summarizes the main research results of this paper, and also expects that this article could make more researchers study Tibetan settlements and residential buildings, in order to protect and promote reasonably the settlements and related construction.
