In order to break through the limitations of design ideas for small-sized apartment, the concept of flexibility design aimed at small-sized dowelling space has been proposed. A building blocks game has been developed on the virtual reality platform for simulate the design processes and demonstrate the design results, which will realize the users’ participation in design processes, enrich communication between user and designer and make small-sized apartments meet the various living demands.Firstly, by analyzing the actual size of the small-sized apartment, studying the classic cases and conducting questionnaires, the three factors(changes in family structure, flexible variation of space function, update of furniture and household appliances) which spurred the concept of flexibility design has been expounded.Aiming at the characteristics of small-sized apartment and basing on ergonomics, the principles and methods for flexible design in small-sized apartment have been summarized.Secondly, a building locks game with functions of real-time modification and dynamic display has been developed basing on virtual reality technique considering enjoyment, interaction and immersion. Combining virtual environments and real space, this game provides designer rapider ways of originality and expression of design ideas, as well as more effective methods to modify design scheme and demonstrate design results.Lastly, a test of user experience has been designed and user satisfaction with the practicability and functionality of the blocks game has been verified by method of measuring user experience. Aimed at the functions of flexibility-design results demonstration and economic area calculation, experience and test have been carried out. Application value of the blocks game has been put forward. In this paper, methods of orientational quantitative induction, multidisciplinary analysis, questionnaire survey and sample analysis have been employed.
