Strapping machine has been used in many industries like food, chemical, medicine, clothing, home appliances, post, etc. Because of wide application, the strapping machine affects many industries’ production efficiency. More efficient and stable strapping machine becomes the research target to adapt to the requirement of high productivity. At present, the technology of strapping machine in the domestic is too backward to adapt to the high production efficiency of relevant industries, which results in high dependency on imported strapping machine. Thus, it is in urgent need to develop strapping machine of same tech level as overseas or higher than it.The technology of strapping machine is mainly manifested on the strapping head which is the core module of the machine and completes more than 80% part of work in a whole packaging cycle. Because of this, the speed and stability of strapping machine is largely decided by the strapping head. The strapping head comprises of left gripper module, middle gripper module, heat welding module and right gripper module; all of these are driven by the cam system. Therefore, the accuracy of cam contour is directly related to the strapping speed and the stability when the machine running at high speed.This topic was aim at researching and manufacturing a strapping machine which can achieve a strapping speed at 60 circles/min. The research procedure includes the following steps: obtain the cams’ contour analytic equation according to the cycloid motion law of cam follower, draw the cams’ contour curve by Microsoft Office Excel and CAD, import the curve into Solid Works to build the 3D model of the cams, build the 3D model of strapping head and analysis the model using Solid Works Motion, and thus we can obtain the cam followers’ motion parameter curves. According to the curves we can come to the conclusion that the design is reasonable. Then we manufacture the physical prototype to do experiments to further test and verify the design. Experiments show that the strapping speed achieves 66 circuits/min, and it is stable, low impact, low noise when working.
