Research On Taiwan Industrial Heritage Protection And Activation Strategy Under The Perspective Of Urban Catalytic

With the economic development,industrial structure adjustment and the acceleration of urbanization,the old factories are increasing and have became a special component of the old city. As the old city renewed rapidly,many old factories with well location took unreasonable updating mode under the influence of the economic interest,cause the destruction of industrial heritage and loss of city civilization. How to balance the industrial heritage protection and the city development is worth our thinking. The Catalytic Theory in planning suggests strategically introducing new elements or recovering old elements,then rebuilding new life which could make an influential effect. This strategy provides a new thought for the industrial heritage protection and activation.This article consists of four parts(five chapters),which based on the perspective of Urban Catalytic.Firstly,the paper makes the background,purpose,significance and tendencies of the research clearly,and then draws up the research methods and framework(Chapter 1).Secondly,it interprets relevant theories about the reconstruction and activation of the old city,and focus on the concept,origin,action principle and dynamic of the Catalytic theory. And then sorting out the concept,formation reasons,characteristics,value and reforming direction of industrial heritage. Comparing the study and practices in the Chinese mainland,Taiwan and abroad(Chapter 2 and 3).In the third part,the paper collects and researchs the relative practices,and focus on the practices in Taiwan which is more mature and successful. Choosing five old factories protection and activation cases in the north,middle,south and east district of Taiwan which proceed with field investigation,data collection and questionnaire. And then analysis the historical background,location,activation process and Catalytic effects of the cases. At last comparing the five cases and summarize the factors which has important influence on their success(Chapter 4).Finally,the article proposed the strategy of industrial heritage protection and activation under the perspective of Catalytic. The activation strategy can be analyzed in five levels:the perspective of Catalytic selection,the carrier selection,the element implantation,the Catalytic activation and the chain reaction. And then combined the research on the different levels of Catalytic elements with the analysis of the cases in Taiwan. Comparing the industrial heritage activation practices in the Chinese mainland with Taiwan, and then summing up the experience of Taiwan practices which can help us promote the industrial heritage protection and activation. Making a contribution to the old city‘s functions,economy and cultural renaissance(Chapter 5).Through the study of this paper,hoping to provide some new ideas and references for the industrial heritage protection and activation in Chinese mainland. Offering the Catalytic strategy as a new reference and new angle to the old city development problems. To study and explore this question in a broader view inorder to realize the organic updates and sustainable developments of the old city.
