Public space is decorated by ubiquitous public arts.However little interest is shown on public art works.This fact brings barriers to communication of public art works and made it difficult to achieve the interactivity between them. Although public arts exist in urban public space, the value of it lies on the communication between people and arts as well as the realization of interactivity. This article focuses on the study of the interactivity of public arts in urban public space.Based on a comprehensive summary of a large number of references, this article discussed the concept and characteristics of urban public space and public art. Combined with large amounts of communication works of public art, a survey on cognition of public art of citizens in Xi’an and the interaction between public and public art was launched. Finally we concluded the deficiencies of the public art in Xi’an and gave suggestions about design of public space and public art in Xi’an. This article made a contribution to the communication effect of public space and public art as well as the communication between people in Xi’an and offered more practical methods for public art design. With significant reference to public art design,the author expected this article to raise the quality and interactivity of urban public art and public art in Xi’an.
