With the rapid development of market economy as well as the level industrial manufacturing in China is improving, the market demand of portable hand-held testing equipment is increasing. At the same time, the user’s needs of this device in practicality and aesthetics are on the rise.Under this background, the birth of excellent portable hand-held testing equipment is an inevitable trend,while a good design of the equipment also needs the guidance of a more comprehensive design theory.However,many improvements can still be explored in this in this research field.Therefore, the design and application of portable hand-held devices research is of certain significance.Based on the internship of electrostatic detector project in Shanghai Round Circular Industrial Design Company,a practical case study of hand-held testing equipment were discussed to study the application of ergonomics research methods in hand-held devices.Through the analysis of hand-held testing equipment characteristics of the product category, human-machine characteristics, man-machine interface and appearance characteristics, and some designing principles of hand-held devices were summarized from the man-machine engineering, man-machine interface and design aesthetics respectively.The paper research mainly based on the principle of ergonomics, industrial product design aesthetics, product interface design of hand-held devices. Through the analysis of existing products, the summary of the basic theory and design method of portable hand-held devices for appearance of improvements and innovation.As well as the core spirit of "The user as the center" concept, to analysis the developing trend and to advocate the safety and comforts of the product equipment operation.Thisprovides a solid theoretical foundation and feasible approaches to the product innovation design.
