Wind energy, as a clean energy, can reduce the fossil fuel’s consumption and the environmental pollution. With its development and widely usage, the offshore wind farms come as follow and it increases the widely demand of the maintenance vessels.Combine with the actual use of the offshore wind farms, analysis the characteristic of the trimaran, and then we confirmed the catamaran as the ship type of the maintenance vessel. According to some reference material, we determine the principle dimensions of the trimaran and use the software NAPA to do the ship lines designing.Combining with the actual use of the maintenance vessel we also have designed the layout of the ship.In this paper, we explore the resistance and seakeeping performance of the trimaran from two perspectives: one is the different proportion of volume of displacement of the side hull in total displacement; the other one is the different position of the side hull. We determine some different schemes, trying to confirm the right proportion of the displacement of the side hull as well as the suitable position. With the help of the software of FINE/Marine, we do some calculation and analysis of the resistance of the different schemes. Through the pitching and heaving calculation and analysis for the maintenance vessel by the sea-keeping calculation module in NAPA software, we can get the frequency response function for the vessels at different speed and different wave angles.After comprehensive analysis of the effect of the different proportion of the displacement of the side hull in total displacement and the positions of the side hull to the resistance and pitching and heaving performance, we can see that when proportion of the displacement of the side hull is 9%~12% of the total displacement, the stern transom plate of the side hull is flushed with the main hull and the transverse pitch is 4.05 meters, the trimaran can get the best performance. With this proportion and the position of the side hull, the trimaran maintenance vessel has the best performance so as to accomplish the daily maintenance work safely and quickly.Research achievement and some conclusions obtained in this paper has a certain reference value on resistance, pitching and heaving performance of this type of vessel and provide a reference for the selection of offshore wind farm maintenance vessel.
