Structural synthesis plays a basis role of all kinds of mechanism structures optimization and mechanism innovation, which is the most creative phase of the mechanical innovative design process. For a long time, the subject has been a focus and difficult to the international mechanism scientists. But at first the mechanism synthesis method is mainly relying on the experience and institution. Until into the 1960 s, the knowledge of graph theory was introduced into research of mechanisms, From then on it provided a powerful mathematical theory for enumeration methods, which make scholars obtained numerous effective planar mechanism enumeration methods that largely promote the planar structural synthesis development, but mostly has been studied about non-fractionated kinematic chain little about fractionated.Epicyclic gear trains have the advantage of small volume, light quality and outstanding performance. So, at present epicyclic gear trains are widely used in daily life, heavy industry and even aerospace fields. According to the present situation, in this paper, a method based on the primitive topology to synthesize 1, 2 degrees of freedom epicyclic gear train kinematic chains is presented. In order to reduce artificial selection of work,the characteristic number sting and the strucute decomposition theory of kinematic chains are used for resolve isomorphism and rigid sub-chain issue.Firstly, the paper briefly introduces the relevant basic knowledge of graph theory and mechanisms, as well as the basic theory of gear kinematic chain including new topology graph, funcational schematic and adjacency matrix. Then, the paper introduces the pseudoisomorphic graphs problems occurred in the previous topology graph, and solutions are put forward too. At last, an overview of the Visual++ 6.0 programming software application used by this project is presented.Secondly, the concept of the primitive opology graph is put forward and the method based on embryonic graph to synthesize primitive graph is presented too. Then, on the basis of primitive graph and structural characteristics of epicyclic gear train, a synthesize method is proposed. Meanwhile, how to obtain a characteristic number sting and detective the rigid sub-chain is introduced detailedly.Finally, the method of enumeration of 1, 2 degrees of freedom epicyclic gear train kinematic chains is presented here could be accomplished by Visual C++ programming language on the Windows platform. Also, new results of 1, 2 epicyclic gear train kinematic chain within 12 links are obtained. Some topology graphs that select from synthetical results are used for other master’s graduation design.
