The paper chooses a small enclosed induction motor as the research object, starting from the heat source and cooling structure of the motor, through the study of motor loss and relevant thermal parameters of each part of the m otor, finite element simulation model of electromagnetic and thermal field are carried out to obtain the tem perature distribution, a experiment platform is built to study th e steady-state and tran sient temperature rise in the motor.The heat source of motor mainly from electromagnetic loss, in the paper, we try to analyze iron loss, copper loss and mechanical loss of the motor in the ory, then obtain the copper loss, iron losse and their loss distribution of motor through the finite element analysis software MagNet; thermal structure and environmental factors determines the motor’s cooling, according to the theory of heat transfer and fluid dynamics, this paper focuses on thermal conductivity of the stator slots, heat transfer coefficient of the motor surface, convection coefficient of stator and rotor based on 2D finite elem ent analysis model.In this paper a three-phase cage induction motors a motor type of Y100L1-4 is calculated and experimented based on elect romagnetic and tem perature field. The Simulation is m ainly based on finite elem ent electromagnetic software MagNet and thermal analysis software ThermNet, firstly, do some appropriate assumptions to build a two-dimensional electromagnetic simulation model of the motor, to calculate loss and distribution of the m otor through MagNet. Then m ake the loss as the heat source of ThermNet simulation model, on the basis of setting the ele ctromagnetic and thermal properties and the boundary conditions do el ectromagnetic and thermal coupling of the motor. Finally, through the simulation results of thermal field to analyse the steady-state and transient temperature rise of the m otor. The main aspects of the ex periment is to measure the heat source and temperatu re rise of steady-state and trans ient case associated with therm al field, each th ermal parameters, boundary conditions and mathematical models of the motor are v erified by experim ent and simulation to be reasonable, in addition to the temperature rise of the motor rotor is difficult to measure, we propose a method of fitting to seek it’s steady temperature.
