Discussion Forthe External Space Of Cultural Architecture:Base On The Perspective Of Public Life

Cultural architecture is considered to be the landmarks of the historical cities. They are the physical carriers to reproduce the history origin, and foresee the future concept of the cities. In most of the cases, the cultural buildings demonstrate the architecture style and cultural trends in the path of urban growth. However, it is believed that it is not the unique factor to reflect the development of social culture. Instead, the most effective power comes from the colorful life of ordinary residents. The cultural building itself plays the role of providing public needs and eliminating public concern. It grows with the city and sends out its charming ambient. Today, more and more attention is given to cultural buildings in China. Unfortunately, the importance of external space has being ignored in most of the developments. External space has become the annex of the buildings, provides limited functions. In this case, how the best to transfer external space into the supportive element, and bring vitality to urban life has now become an outstanding issue.The thesis has been divided into four parts – raise a question, preliminary analysis, deep analysis and trouble-shooting. Firstly, the thesis undertakes research to the general notion of public life and cultural building’s external space. Along with field work research, this section helps to identify the existing issues and barriers of Nanning cultural building’s external space. Evaluation will be run through the openness, continuity, diversity and symbolic meaning of external space. Preliminary analysis will highline design objectives, evaluate from the urban, architectural and public users’ perspectives. Domestic and international case studies will be shown in this section in order to support thesis views. After that, detailed design and strategy will be provided in the recommendations, which have strong focus on practicability, pertinence and feasibility.In the end, the author will base on the above research to provide further recommendation, in terms of research direction and management method. The thesis will start with the public vision to forwards research and discussion, meanwhile; provide fundamental resource for further study.
