The steel deck pavement technology is one of the key technologies of long-span bridge construction which has been attached great importance and concern on the academia and engineering field at home and abroad. In recent years, epoxy pavement is more often used in the steel deck pavement at home and abroad. Epoxy asphalt is an excellent pavement material with excellent resistance to high temperature, high toughness, good performance to anti fatigue, especially it can adapt to heavy traffic better. Most foreign companies make it as patent application or as their key technologies, so the complexity and high import prices of epoxy asphalt materials technology hinder the current promotion of its application and the development of long span steel bridge deck technology to some extent in China. Meanwhile, the maintenance of epoxy asphalt pavement is more different and difficult than a common one. When diseases in some part of domestic bridges which use epoxy asphalt as surface are occurred, the high prices, the complex procurement and the long-arrival period etc. will go against to the prompt repair of the steel bridge deck if we choose the import materials. In addition, the evaluation of the design and the applicability of new combination pavement structure need further research, especially the issues like compatibility, adhesion or anti-shear between the top layer and the following layer of the pavement. And based on the above background, this paper will systematically focus on the design and evaluation research for the new domestic epoxy asphalt materials and steel bridge deck composite structure.Firstly, the microscopic overall distribution, the sectional structure and the three-dimensional structure of epoxy asphalt were observed and analyzed by the Fluorescence Microscopy and the Scanning Electron Microscopy. According to the above three points, the curing mechanism and spatial structure model of epoxy asphalt were analyzed, and the skeleton structure formation’s critical proportion of epoxy asphalt also were determined at the same time.Then the new epoxy hot-mix asphalt which mix N-EA were observed microscopically under SEM, the adhesion properties and the strength of its mechanism were analyzed. Meanwhile, reference to the experimental research performance of epoxy asphalt at home and abroad, the road performance and the construction performance of this mixture were evaluated. It also did the experimental study by comparing with the TAF epoxy asphalt and the Chem Co epoxy asphalt.Next three kinds of new cold-mix epoxy asphalt material, EP306(I), EP306(II) and EP307 were evaluated by their experiment performance. The optimum ratio of above materials was determined by experiments and the mix proportion of cold-mix epoxy asphalt was designed. The Marshall Stability, high temperature rutting, beam bending, and water and oil stability of above materials were compared and evaluated comprehensively. It also was compared with TAF epoxy asphalt mixture and the experimental results showed that the new cold-mix asphalt epoxy has excellent road performance.Finally, according to the specific performance requirements of steel bridge deck structure, and combining design requirements of functional layer and structural integration, the steel bridge deck composite structure which use epoxy asphalt as the following layer and modified asphalt mixture as top layer was evaluated. The features of this program are ease of construction and maintenance, excellent performance and low cost etc. The applicability of this program was researched and evaluated, and the problem of compatibility, adhesion and anti-shear between the modified asphalt concrete with epoxy asphalt pavement should be focused on solving. The effect to the adhesive layer function was evaluated by testing different bonding layer material, different contact states and the amount of the adhesive material though tensile and shear tests. And the cohesive layer’s law performance variation was summarized in order to providing a reference for the selection and construction of pavement structures.
