Special-shaped column frame-structure is a relatively new structure system in recent years. It adopts the T-shaped,L-shaped and cross-shaped of section column to replace the traditional rectangular section column and uses the light material filler-wall to replace the self-weight bigger filler-wall with clay brick. It makes the building structure outstand the wall without the corner of the room columns. Which not only expands the use of the area of the building, but also to the use of the house space, at the same time, it also has the characteristics of energy conservation and environmental protection, flexible arrangement, easy to separate new space etc, which is deeply welcoming by inhabitants and real estate developers. But as a new structure system, it has has never been experienced by a larger earthquake. So carrying on the study of the earthquake resistant behaviour and the way of designing about reinforced concrete special-shaped columns structure system have important theory meaning and practical value.Firstly, because of the particularity of the special-shaped column section, the paper analysis the section’s mechanical properties,and concluded the rule of the basic mechanical properties such as the centroid position and stiffness etc which change along with the differences of length-width ratios of columns limbs. Then on the basis of predecessors’ researches, the paper discuss the seismic performance of frame structure,laying the root for the analysis on seismic resistance of frame structure.Secondly, the paper compares the two structure’s seismic performance differences according to a simple special-shaped column frame structure and rectangular column frame structure by using modal analysis and response spectrum analysis method. Meanwhile, in order to avoid the analysis results’ sidedness because of the particularity of the models. Then it analyzes an engineering example in the same way. At last it adopts the additional elastic time history analysis stage, through the history curve changing all the time to further research the structure’s seismic performance under the earthquake. At the same time it also can check the results of the previous analysis.The results show that compared to the same area of rectangular column structure, the special-shaped column structure’s integral space stiffness enlarges, interlayer displacement controlling factors such as the layer displacement, the interlayer displacement, the interlayer displacement angle decrease under the same external conditions and earthquake action. And the time history analysis also shows that the special-shaped column structure’s seismic response is also smaller than rectangular column structure’s under the earthquake.This paper demonstrates that the special-shaped column structure can have good seismic performance through appropriate design.
