The steel deck pavement technology of long-span bridges has been a difficult world-wide problem because it requires specific conditions in application. In particular, the long-span suspension bridge has higher deformation of the bridge surface due to its better flexibility and larger displacement. Gussasphalt mixture has characteristics of resisting water, air, corruption, durability and a good suite for the steel panel therefore a reliable steel deck pavement material. In addition, it fits the long-span suspension bridge and has wide and successful applications in other countries.This paper studied the Fourth Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge steel deck pavement in refer to successful research results of steel deck pavement in Japan. The author conduced theoretical analysis combined with indoor experiments, and developed the meeting requirements method of the Fourth Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge steel deck gussasphalt concrete pavement.Firstly, this paper studied the existing domestic and foreign steel bridge deck materials and technology, focusing on analysis of the gussasphalt concrete pavement research and application at home and abroad. According to the climate, transport and structural conditions of the Fourth Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, this paper developed the method of steel deck gussasphalt concrete pavement and analyzed the Fourth Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge steel deck pavement for the mechanical properties by the finite element analysis software ANSYS. The results showed that at the overload condition, the pavement layer by the vertical displacement, horizontal tensile stress, longitudinal tensile stress and shear stress was greater than the normal circumstances and would accelerate the destruction of bridge deck pavement.Secondly, the author completed the selection of raw materials, the mix designing of gussasphalt mixture layer below and modified asphalt mixture upper layer and the pavement structural performance in refer to the Japanese design processes, experiment methods and the performance evaluation index by a large number of indoor experiments. Various raw materials selected by testing meeted the requirements and the gussasphalt mixture performance and structure fully meeted requirements by the design processes.Finally, this paper studied the steel deck gussasphalt mixture pavement construction technology, focusing on the construction machinery, construction processes and the main considerations.Through above contents, this paper discussed the steel deck gussasphalt concrete pavement technology of long-span bridges suitable for China.
