As an important branch of automobile industry, the three-wheeled automobile played important roles in modern agricultural production, cargo transportation, ore mining. The frame was the main load-bearing part of three-wheeled vehicle, it not only suffered the load from ground, car-body and the goods, but also connected major assemblies of the three-wheeled automobile, so the frame played an important connecting role also. The static analysis and optimization design of frame had an important guiding roles for three-wheeled automobile’s design and optimization.This paper took a three-wheeled automobile frame as the research object, according to the specific structure parameters of a three-wheeled automobile, this paper had built the three-dimension entity model of the frame, used the transformation technology between software, imported the three-dimension entity model to the FEA software, built the FEA model of frame through the steps of geometry cleanup, mid-surface extraction, meshing, element connection and so on; this paper had calculated the external load of the conditions of deformation, torsion, acceleration and turn, finished the boundary conditions infliction, analyzed the deformation and stress distribution of the frame; it had calculated the first 13 order non zero modal and vibration modal distribution of the frame under free boundary condition; it had built the topology optimization model of the frame, taken the min weight of the frame as optimization target, and the max stress as the constraint conditions, used variable density method finished the topology optimization analysis of the frame, and finished the light-weight design of the frame based on the analysis result. The research showed that the frame’s strength meet the design requirement under various conditions, and the quality of frame reduced 14% after optimization. The research result of this paper provided technical and theoretical support for three-wheeled vehicle design and optimization.
