| With the development of modernization, the industrial structure of the cities has changed in China. The traditional industry was moved out of the city, with which the industrial heritage has attracted wide attention and the protection towards which is on the rise. However, there is no systematic protection strategy. It seems to be the case that some of the overseas and domestic successful practices are applied mechanically in China.Due to the differences in historical human geography, this blindly following strategy has resulted in issues, for example: not popular, autistic architecture atmosphere, incompatibility with the surroundings, mismatch with the image of the city, decrease in space value and land value.Based on the current booming trend of new Chinese style architectures, this essay studies the feasibility of using “the gardens building techniques†as the entry point to protect industrial heritages.Taking the industrial heritage of the Grand Canal in Hangzhou Gongshu Distric as an example, this essay starts with History Humanities and ecological geographical conditions as the two main factors, based on the former researches, fills in the weak link of the research through investigation and deep study. This essay comes up with the solution: focusing on field design, supplemented by old industrial architecture reforming. It is recommended in the essay to integrate the surrounding industrial heritages near the Grand Canal, build into a localized canal landscape corridor, improve its unique geographical charm, thus developing into a mature and attractive touristic and cultural landmark in Hangzhou. It is a possible direction for industrial heritage protection to take reference from one representative case, under the current main stream that industrial heritage protection is boring and non-local. |
