Metal cans sealing quality is an important quality index of metal cans, thus improving the detection of sealing performance would helps to improve the quality of cans and protecting the inner product not influenced by external environment.This paper developed the metal cans sealing performance testing system through studying metal cans sealing performance testing technology and methods. The system can be used to test and analyse double seam width, seam thickness, countersink depth, sealing gap, free space, body hook length, cover hook length, overlap length, overlap percent, body hook rolling degree and cover hook rolling degree.The image measurement technology is appied to the double seam parameters measurement. The system gets the measuring point on the image of double seam section, then calculates the pixel distance between the critical points, and the pixel size is converted to the actual physical size. At last, the testing datas output as needing form. The system realized the test data management throuth introduced the database management technology.This paper has analyzed the image measurement and calibration principle, and choosen a suitable image measurement method according to double seam test characteristics. The testing system uses monocular calibraton method, because the testing of double seam cross section is a two-dimensional size measurement. The calibration results are applied to the image measurement process, then converts the pixel size to actual size. The testing system also can compare the test data with standard data of double seam.The testing system selected microscope objective micrometer as calibration object according to the characteristics of calibraton reference. This calibration object can also be used as checking procee of testing system.The testing system can give the reasons that lead to the parameter unqualifyiing with double seam testing performance and the related standard data. In order to manage the test system data, it has established saven database table.This paper has research on the precision evaluation of test system; its accuracy can reach 0.01mm, which has meted the double seam test precision. And other similar test results also shows that the system has higher reliability.
