In order to meet the growing demand of more residential construction for the people, a lot of new buildings have sprung up in major cities with real estate hot and the acceleration of urbanization in China. Both high residential buildings, small high buildings and multi-storey residential buildings are newly built in renovated or expanded residential districts. Good design of outdoor water supply system and drainage system for those residential districts can not only achieve a reliable water supply and drainage design purpose but also help to reduce the initial investment equipment to pipe network operating costs. It is important to the formation of healthy property management system.In this paper, an engineering example for a residential district in Kaifeng city is utilized to discuss how to design a reliable outdoor drainage network system. Some examples of the drainage system in other common residential areas are analyzed basing on the works undertaken by the optimization of outdoor water supply drainage systems. Moreover, some key issues and countermeasures related to designing the supply drainage system were analyzed.According to domestic and foreign cell-related information and related design drawings relevant standards, specifications, and design institute for outdoor residential quarters to the specific characteristics of the drainage network, the paper summarizes the designing form for such a residential district of outdoor drainage network system in the residential district in Kaifeng city. For modern construction, huge renovation and expansion of the new district, the water supply should adopt the direct-municipalwater-supply and sub-floor-pressurized-water. Fire water pool commonly is used for fire water supply system, which can share resources with outdoor fire water need multiple buildings within a radius of protection.Finally, an engineering example of a residential district in Kaifeng city is designed with analyzing the characteristics of outdoor water supply and drainage design system. Some advanced design features and construction experiences are listed in this paper with in-depth analysis and discussion points to the drainage network layouts and many key issues in designing process.
