Ship Simulator has been widely used in crew’s daily training for a long time, however rescue ship is a special kind of ship, for which generic type of ship simulator can’t fully satisfy the training requirements, and therefore it is necessary to develop a rescue ship simulator system. In this background, the system frame and operation principle are researched, and the whole system is divided into four functional subsystems in this study. On the basis of this, the tools and methods for software/hardware development are researched, based on which the prototype system is developed. The system can not only meet the requirement of basic handling training, but also introduce the function of proprioceptive simulation and the ideology of rescue operation simulation. The system can not only meet the requirement of steering training, but also introduced the special function module, which is able to break the limit of traditional simulator.Overall, the four different computers in simulator prototype system are connected in LAN with the distributed simulation method, based on which the data communication among computers is achieved by TCP/IP protocol.In this study the visual software is developed by the Vega Prime in MFC framework, by which the real-time visual rendering, interactive controlling and data transmitting is achieved. On the basic of that, the visual simulation of rescue operation is proposed, in that way the limit of evaluating in crew’s training can be break. The AVR microcontroller is applied to develop the steering PCB, which solves the problem of data acquisition and transmitting. The system contains a 6-DOF platform, which provides a tool for motive simulation of rescue ship in rough sea, and the transmitting efficiency is solved by using UDP protocol, by which the swing motion can be simulated in real-time. By this means, the deficiency of traditional simulator in motive simulation can be compensated. Besides, the virtual instrument software is developed based on LabView to provide real-time information for crew. And the track of ship can be showed in electronic chart software developed by GDI.The result of Application experiment shows that the prototype system of rescue ship simulator is able to run according to the design requirement, which proves that the framework and development method is feasible.
