Strapdown imaging guided weapon is a very important kind of weapon that can destroy targets with high accuracy. Hardware-in-the-loop simulation system is a useful and economic way to test the combat efficiency of strapdown imaging guided weapon, meanwhile it is the key step in guided weapon researching. Aim at the need of hardware-in-the-loop simulation system of strapdown imaging guided weapon, the target simulator is built by the virtual reality technology of Vega/Creator/VC to simulate the real-time scenario of guided weapon during aviation. Main works of this paper are as follows:(1) The overall framework of visual simulator is proposed. Firstly, the research status of virtual reality technology is introduced. Secondly, the development tool of visual simulate system is recommended. Thirdly, aim at the need of hardware-in-the-loop simulation system of strapdown imaging guided weapon, the overall framework of visual simulation target simulator is designed, the technological process of building visual simulation target simulator is proposed.(2) Database of scenario when guided weapon attacks static or moving target is built. Multigen Creator is taken to build large-scale terrain model, role model and three-dimensional target model. And then, Vega is used to add these models to a certain scenario to get file of scenario database, and the FLT file is packing.(3) The interactive visual simulation target simulator is built. Firstly, visual C++ is provided to design interactive interface and call the Vega function to render the scence. Secondly, the problem of how to generate the relatively motion image is solved by simultaneously update the strapdown seeker in the visual simulator to simulate real captured image with the INS simulator data sent from simulator to serial communication, visual simulate of guided weapon attacking under different environment(illumination, foggy, cloundy) and different target(static, moving). The hardware interface of target simulator is designed to realize the meeting between the target simulator and hardware-in-the-loop simulation system.(4) The test and application of visual simulation target simulator based on strapdown imaging guided hardware-in-the-loop simulation platform are accomplished, including the Hardware-in-the-loop simulation of strapdown imaging guided weapon. Firstly, the strapdown imaging guided hardware-in-the-loop simulation system is built. Secondly, target recognizing and target tracking algorithm applied on visual simulator is tested and its performances are evaluated. Experiment results show different targets can be recognized and tracked exactly in different situations, vertify the validity of the visual simulation system. Thirdly, strapdown imaging guided hardware-in-the-loop simulation experiments are developed. The results show the visual simulator is designed reasonable, functional validity, and can be joint the whole hardware-in-the-loop simulation system well.In conclusion, visual simulation target simulator in hardware-in-the-loop simulation system of strapdown imaging guided weapon is built. It can simulate the dynamic scenario when guided weapon attacking ground target, and provide the testing platform of the target recognizing and target tracking algorithms of strapdown imaging guided weapon. The visual simulation target simulator is successfully apply to the strapdown imaging seeker project taken in our team’s hand.
