With the rapid development of the port economy, great changes have been made in the shipping industry, which has the characteristics of large scale and diversification. In order to alleviate the problem of the ship’s port of pressure and adapt to the development of the near and forward ship type, the construction scale of the port and berth is also expanding. Most of the newly built berths for "open" berth, without any shelter. In order to reduce the effect of sea wave, improve work conditions of the water area of a port, while preventing sediment enter the harbor deposition, harbor water depth effect, safeguards the ships berthing, and operation safety, the use of breakwater to cover the waters of the harbor.According to the development plan of Changxing Island port area, it will be the base of petrochemical industry. While super large petrochemical enterprises need to adopt a higher standard of protection. In view of this, it is proposed to construct the west and south breakwater in Hulushan Bay of Changxing Island, and to form a more effective protection to the port area to meet the requirements of the ship operation. Breakwater entrance arrangement is an important content of port planning, affect the in and out of the ship navigation environment. Handle Bay breakwater in Changxing Island port layout is the core problem of the development of the coastline. Entrance width is one of the important parameters that affect the shield effect. At the same time, the construction of the breakwater changes the navigation environment of the water area, and puts forward higher requirements for the channel width of the corresponding gate to meet the navigation requirements of the working area. So it is not only an important guarantee to meet the needs of port development but also a best way to ensure the safety of ship navigation and improve work efficiency that determine the entrance of breakwater width and channel width of entrance section scientifically and reasonably.This paper focuses on the breakwater entrance width of Hulushan Bay and the layout of channel width of entrance section. First, research Changxing Island natural conditions and Hulushan Bay planning overview, basis for the construction of the south breakwater and wave, tidal numerical model research conclusion. Analysis domestic and foreign relevant specifications on breakwater entrance width of the relevant standards, by means of comparison analysis, theoretical calculation, focuses on the analysis of the flow conditions on the influence of ship safety, breakwater entrance width were studied. The simulation flow field is established, according to the parameters of the model of the optimal width of the entrance. And the operating model of the ship is also established, according to determine the width of the entrance. The research of the track width at the entrance is done by using ship manoeuvring simulation test method. Then according to the specification requirement of our country, we can inverse calculate the navigable width. Comparing the research of channel width and the engineering design parameters, we choose the best layout plan which based on the perspective of ship handling safety. Combined with accident cases,it analyses the potential risks in the entrance of breakwater and puts forward some relevant safety recommendations.
