This thesis is based on the surveillance system for the expressway between Chengdu and Meishan(Renshou) that is a section of the Chengzilu expressway. An expressway surveillance system containing bypass surveillance and tunnel surveillance subsystems is designed based on the real situation, telecommunication techniques, and computer network techniques, and control techniques, and MIS techniques, and Web Service, and SOA, and C++ implementation, and MS SQLSERVER database, and etc. It serves to monitor the traffic situations, transportation infrastructure status, and transportation environment along the expressway section between Chengdu and Meishan(Renshou). It also functions to regulate the traffic flows to ensure the quality service featured in high speed, high efficiency, and improved safety and comfort. Meanwhile, the proposed system can collect surveillance data from the subsystems therefore can be used as information support for long-term strategic management, planning and operation.This project is customized with respect to the expressway section between Chengdu and Meishan(Renshou). It mainly consists of the following parts: i) a literature review on the state of the arts of the expressway surveillance systems, and the feasibility research, and the selection of desirable new techniques, and demand analysis on the software and the firmware components; ii) the framework design and the elaborated implementation of the modules; iii) the systematic validation and testing, a summary of the lessons learned, and the future work.The proposed system is extensively tested and verified. We conclude that it fulfills the design criteria. Based on the feedback from its practical deployment and operation, it improves significantly the efficiency of the expressway transportation management and is worth further dissemination.
