Conceptual design focused on function implementation, performance solving often pushed to the detailed design stage, the unparallel product design process make it difficult to get ideal design solution. To solve the above problems, this paper presents a conceptual design for functionality- performance integrated design approach, product performance can be considered in the early design, and ultimately the function and performance can parallel solving. The main work is as follows:1.Requirements to functionality and performance’s multidimensional expectations transformation. Through the collection and arrange of requirements, extracting demand intention. In functional dimension, requirements will be classified as basic needs,supportability and binding as three demand library and abstract overall function, establish guiding functional decomposition of functional decomposition orientation; In performance dimension, requirements will be classified as basic and guarantee as two demand library and extract the desired performance with different weights.2.Performance dependent. Based on functional decomposition guide, decompose the overall functional and get a clear functional structure tree; based on the tree, performance with different rights by correspondence, attachment, logical changes and other steps are carried out in the same layer attachment and cross-Layer attachment, eventually get multiple performance dependent functional elements(PF).3.Performance dependent functional elements- behavioral performance- structure(PF-PB-S) mapping. Respectively, through PF-PB mapping and PB-S mapping, function(F)and supplemental performance of functions(P) gradually transforming the abstract to the concrete, and finally get structure(S) and structure’s performance supplement. In addition,PF-PB and PB-S mapping allows designers to filter and eliminate the disadvantages of the behavior and weaknesses of structure, finally get the performance benefits of a higher concentration of the original understanding of the combination.4.In the function- performance integrated design approach, develop a function-oriented- Performance Integrated aided design system, and in a milling device as an engineering example, verification of the proposed design method feasible and effectiveness.
