Fast moving consumer goods are closely associated with people’s daily life. As daily necessities, FMCG have been involved in almost every corner of people’s life. Food, clothing, shelter and transportation are more or less related to FMCG As the economy develops and the pace of people’s life speeds up, people are getting used to a rapid pace of life. Accordingly, FMCG are going through a rapid development. FMCG bear a huge potential as well and have gradually become a main force in the consumer market.Nowadays, packaging, an attachment of commodities, has penetrated in almost all fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) in people’s daily life. On one hand, packaging has a positive effect on protecting goods, enhancing promotion and increasing commodity value, on the other hand, the abandoned packs will result in the excessive consumption of resources and damaging the environment, with the consumption and waste yielded by the packaging for FMCG being the most obvious. In a economy-ever-developing yet environment-ever-deteriorating world, how to realize a green and sustainable economy has become a major task. Through constant exploration, "Green packaging design" has received much emphasis and has gradually become a development trend in the packaging industry.the idea of "Green Packaging Design" is becoming ever more valued and gradually becomes the developing trend of packaging industry.Firstly, this paper analyses and discusses the background, purpose and research significance. Through investigation and analysis, it concludes the definition and meaning of green packaging and Fast Moving Consumer Goods. Secondly, the paper states the background and development status of green packaging design with case study. Through actual cases, it analyses the pros and cons of packaging for FMCG and reached a conclusion of the necessity of green packaging for FMCG. Thirdly, this paper systemically analyses the factors and designing methods of green packaging design for FMCG. Finally a conclusion is drawn on the principle and thought of the green packaging design of FMCG and its impact and significance for the production, transmission, value and designing development of FMCG.
