As the consideration of the fuel economy and environmental protection or some other relative factor, more and more ships have been equipped with the Exhaust Power Turbine Generator (EPTG) system. Because of its huge engine power and very large power plant, the large-containership is very suitable for the EPTG system used. Taking C8800, which is a large-containership belongs to Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and build by Dalian Ship Building Industry Co.(DSIC),as mother ship, an in-depth study of The modeling and simulation for the EPTG system is investigated and following main researches are finished in the thesis.(1) After a brief summary of the C8800’s general situation, the composition and the working principle of EPTG system, including the mechanical connection, electrical connection as well as the communication and interface of the system, have been discussed in detail. Above all, the control and the adjust system are the key points discussed. In a precondition of fully understand of the working mechanism of the EPTG system, the mathematical modles of turbine, generator, electro-pneumatic positioner and pneumatic actuator have been established by means of the mechanism modeling method.(2) Matlab/Simulink is used to complete the relative simulation calculation and also the result analysis. The simulation calculations of turbine, generator and the excitation controller have been carried out respectively. By adding the load module, the simulation figure of EPTG system has been finished. Especially, in the condition of 85% SMCR and the EPTG system is operated on’Island Mode’, the load and load characteristic test simulation calculation and analysis have been carried out.(3) The simulation results have been verified through the relative test during the sea trial, which proved the mathematical modles built can describe the working process of EPTG system effectively, the results of the test carried out during the sea trial are basically identical with the simulation. The research have been throughout the first ship of the MSC project, from the ship design, building and till the ship delivery, it is a study process of advanced electrical system of the modern ship, and also a beneficial exploration and practice for the research of the ship energy conservation and environment protection, the study is helpful for accumulating related theory and practice experience for DSIC to develop the relevant product.
