As the "eyes" of ship, the ship navigation radar has already been an absolutely necessary electronic device in the ships. Antenna is an important part of the ship radar, which could influence the performance of the ship radar directly. Therefore, the study of ship radar antenna is of great significance. Dalian Maritime University is entrusted by Nanjing Sandemarine Information and Technology Co., Ltd to develop the ship radar antenna. The author is fortunate enough to be involved in the research work of this project. And the paper is completed under the support of the project. The main works as follow:(1)The co-simulation of HFSS and MATLAB is adopted. And the script program is detailed analyzed. The script file is written by the MATLAB software, which invokes the HFSS software to create models automatically. This method omits a large number of operations of creating models and setting up parameters, thus the efficiency of designing has been clearly improved.(2)A 1.2 meters long waveguide narrow wall slot antenna operating at X band is designed and realized. The Taylor distribution is used as the current distribution of the antenna. The design of low sidelobe level is implemented. The method of embedding the choke slot and paralleled septum is adopted to suppress the cross polarization. And a good result is obtained. The waveguide narrow wall slot antenna is simulated and the optimum structure parameters are obtained. The antenna is manufactured and tested. The measured results meet the requirements. Furthermore, an engineering test is carried out. And the results indicate that the performance of the antenna that is designed in this paper meets the requirements of engineering.(3)A design method of waveguide narrow wall slot antenna based on genetic algorithm is proposed. A 1.8 meters long waveguide narrow wall slot antenna operating at X band is designed and realized. The incline angles of slots are optimized by genetic algorithm to further decrease the error produced by the influence of mutual coupling. The performance of antenna is improved after optimization. The antenna is manufactured and tested in the microwave chamber. And the measured results are analyzed.
