In order to let the trams run smoothly through the catenary-free areas such as the city’s bustling commercial district and transportation hub, we can add vehicle energy storage device, used as a streetcar’s power supply. Bi-directional DC-DC converter of hybrid energy storage system in 100% low-floor vehicle is the research object of this project. The converter of the energy storage system used as energy flow control unit, enabling two-way flow of energy. The paper, depending on the mode and the control target of the converter, we can design the converter control unit and do experiments to verify the control strategy.First, the paper analyzes the bidirectional DC-DC converter operating mode at different low-floor vehicle running state, describes the working principle of the converter in the corresponding operating mode and to establish the small-signal model based on the switch average model method. Depending on the control objectives in the corresponding operating mode of the low-floor vehicles, we design appropriate controllers and complete Matlab/Simulink simulation for verification.Secondly, according to the theoretical analysis and simulation results, we completely design the hardware of bi-directional DC-DC converter control unit includes a control circuit, protection circuit, sampling circuit, IGBT drive circuit and the auxiliary power supply circuit. In addition, we also design the control program flow chart of the converter, and write control procedures.Thirdly, based on dSPACE real-time simulator, we built semi-physical simulation platform of bidirectional DC-DC converter and do closed-loop testing, debugging control program to accelerate the development speed of digital controller and minimize the error control procedures. Finally, experiment of steady-state, converter stating test and dynamic performance test for a converter are done to verify steady performance, dynamic performance and control unit hardware reliability and control strategy feasibility.
