As a network node of urban passenger transport systems, the integrated transport hub is not only a place joining the town and country, but also a transfer point for passengers in different directions and a variety of transport modes. While the transfer efficiency is deeply affected by the facilities within the integrated transport hub, which makes the design of facilities much important. In order to design and optimize the services scientifically, it is essential to analyze the traffic characteristics of passengers and establish models to study the basic theories. From both the micro and macro perspectives, the paper reviewed the progress in China and other countries in respect of pedestrian traffic characteristics, facility selection and dynamic simulation. The individual pedestrian was chosen as main study object. An in-depth study was carried out surrounding pedestrian traffic characteristic, facility selection and dynamic simulation.Firstly, based on the theory of pedestrian traffic behavior, the paper studied pedestrian behavior characteristic in outbound facilities. The pace, stride, and frequency of passengers of different gender, age, load and attribution were analyzed in detail. In addition, it also researched the density distribution of passenger traffic in waiting areas and other characteristics in regard to escalators and elevators.Secondly, from physiological conditions, psychological demand, group behavior influence and facility capacity, the thesis comprehensively analyzed the influence factors of outbound facilities selection for passengers. A Logistic model about passengers’outbound facilities selection was established. The model parameters were calibrated using the measured data. The tried-and-true model had small prediction error and could describe the outbound facilities selection behavior of passengers well. The model could also be used to predict the selection behavior after facility optimization, which provided meaningful advices for facility design. After the model was built, AnyLogic simulation technology was applied to analyze the different influence factors (personal attributes and facility parameters) of Logic model. A functional relationship between outbound time and passenger flow volume was found before and after facility optimization. With the results of simulation, the Logit model could predict the facility selection in different conditions, which helped analyze the impacts of both personal and facility characteristics to facility selection. Finally, based on the study of Logit model and Anylogic simulation, the current situation of outbound facilities in Beijing South Railway Station were simulated with an instance and analyzed qualitatively. Three improvement programs were put forward. The facility selection behaviors after facility optimization were predicted using Logit model, which confirm the useful effects of each program.
