The project is a very complex operation. It has the characteristics of numerous parties, large amount of investment, long project cycle, so project management is a very complicated process. Information is an important part in project management, and with the characteristics of large quantity, wide sources, diverse formats, which make the management becomes very difficult and low efficiency. Under the background of actively promoting the construction of a conservation oriented society and changing the way of economic development, Low efficiency management of the construction industry is incompatible with the need to enhance the level of information management of the construction industry. The emergence of building information model for the efficient construction project information management has brought the dawn. But in the actual production, because of the lack of mature BIM application system, the BIM has not been widely used in the information management. In this paper, based on the advantages of BIM technology, it is important to study the application of BIM in engineering project information management.Based on the owner’s perspective, this paper makes a study on the application of BIM technology in information management. Firstly, through the literature review and combining engineering practice at home and abroad, paper points out that currently project management with serious problems. The paper also conducts in-depth analysis of its causes. As an emerging technology, BIM provides a new management mode and an efficient information processing platform for engineering project information management. Secondly, through the design and carry out the questionnaire, the investigation of BIM information management information needs, the paper identified critical information, respectively is:cost information, schedule information, quality information, security information, environmental information. Then, this paper constructs based on BIM Technology project information management model framework, including data layer, function layer and user layer. According to the key information, model is established to analyze the function modules, and the function requirements of each module and the realization process of the preliminary design. Then, in order to ensure that the model has a certain achievable and operability, the paper builds a model of the operation of the security system. Finally, in this paper, combined with a practical case, from the cost, schedule, quality, security and environmental protection information management aspects demonstrates the BIM is of a great value to enhance the efficiency of the project information management.The study shows that the total factor information management within the project life cycle can be achieved based on the BIM Technology project information management model. In the transformation of the building industry extensive mode of production and improve the efficiency of project management have practical significance.
