Heavy truck is more and more used to land transport with the prosperous circulation of goods caused by the prosperous internet and logistics companies gradually rising. Heavy truck tending to be stable and mature in technology, the advantage of shape design makes heavy truck come out first in consumer market. Most design elements of one Chinese heavy truck brand being not similar, and brand genes between the same brand products being sometimes not inherited, independent product features fail to form a brand image. For this,it is necessary to improve shape design method based on product gene in order to getting rational guidance for shape design and promoting the formation and development of the brand image of heavy truck products. The geometric elements, point, line, and surface, are researched in the shape design method of heavy truck based on brand and product gene and Gestalt psychology. The method is used to analyze and discuss the geometry elements of heavy truck by Design Format Analysis(DFA) and Visual Perceptual Organization Principle. It includes two steps. The one is called brand gene inheritance of heavy truck, while the other one is called brand gene mutation of heavy truck. In the discussion of product gene inheritance, referring to the theory of biology, dominant genes control the dominant product characteristics of the heavy truck and recessive genes control the recessive product features of the one. The map of shape feature based on brand and product gene from DFA is used to guide the recombination, evolution and variation of the product characteristics of heavy truck. And absolutely these procedures of evolution are also controlled by principle of heterogeneous structure and Law of Integrity, such as Law of Simplicity, Law of closure, Law of Proximity, Law of Continuity, Law of Similarity and Law of Common Movement and so on. Finally, taking VOLVO brand as design practice proves this shape design method of heavy truck based on product gene.
