How to solve the energy crisis and environmental pollution has become the focus of global concern to ensure the sustainable economic and social development. Green Energy has been proposed to point out the solving direction of above problems, among which the solar photovoltaic power generation has aroused extensive attention and application due to its advantages such as cleanness, renewability and large storage.In the application of solar energy photovoltaic power generation process, How to improve the solar energy utilization efficiency has become one of the problems of photovoltaic power generation system. The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is one of the key technology of photovoltaic conversion. Due to the non-linear characteristics of photovoltaic power generation system to the environmental influence, reliable and efficient realization of MPPT has become the key and difficult point of the photovoltaic conversion technology. Therefore, Study on the maximum power point tracking has great significance in theory and application. According to the current research status and characteristics of the photovoltaic maximum power point tracking (MPPT), the following studies have been carried out in this paper:(1) The application status and development prospect of photovoltaic power generation at home and abroad is introduced briefly. The background and the developing process of MPPT technology is described.(2) The working principle and system structure of photovoltaic power generation is described. The mathematical model and the characteristic curve of the photovoltaic cell in ideal situation is summarized. The effects of temperature and light intensity on the output characteristics of photovoltaic cells are analyzed. The actuator realizing MPPT, i.e. DC/DC converter is studied in detail.(3) The commonly used MPPT algorithms in current photovoltaic power generation field is briefly introduced. The simulation model of photovoltaic cell is established. The photovoltaic power generation system controlled by typical MPPT strategy based on perturbation and observation method is simulated.(4) The photovoltaic power generation MPPT control strategy based on sliding mode variable structure control theory is researched. The Zeta converter based photovoltaic power generation system is chosen and simulated to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the studied control strategy.(5) A kind of MPPT control strategy based on particle swarm optimization algorithm is studied. The special effect on the photovoltaic power generation MPPT under the partial shade situation is analyzed and verified by simulation.
