With the rapid increasing of container trade, throughputs of all ports grow, and scheduling of terminal operation also therefore become more complex, so more and more scholars focused on research of the container terminal operation problem. Based on this, the main research of this paper is about the container terminal handling system, It has important significance to the terminal operation efficiency, combined with the actual situation of terminal.In order to analyze the container terminal handling system better, this paper started from the main equipment of loading and unloading system, this paper studies from the angle of the shore of the bridge structure characteristics, main technical parameters, usage, development status, influence factors. According to the characteristics of the loading and unloading process, this paper aimed at ship in the shortest time considering quantity of quay cranes. Considering various constraint conditions and characteristics during the container gantry cranes scheduling optimization, a scheduling optimization model was established. Genetic algorithm was designed to solve this problem, using Matlab programming. In the background of Dalian port container terminal, the effectiveness of the established model and algorithm is verified. This paper can provide approach for actual scheduling of container terminal.
