Isolation valve is one of the key components of locomotive brake system. Its main function is isolated the automatic driver’s brake valve and is usually applied to locomotive multi-traction. With the continuous development of railway transportation in our country, the operation of heavy haul trains is becoming more and more common, and the requirements of the locomotive brake system is proposed higher, especially the locomotive is set in double traction mode or multiple unit, the isolation valve becomes more and more important, once problems occur will affect the heavy haul train operation safety. Therefore, it is necessary to study of isolation valve and its test device.Testing the isolation valve by locomotive isolation valve test device, in order to get reliable data, so it can optimize the structure design of isolation valve, reducing isolation valve of the defective rate and improving the isolation valve factory quality; it also can rapidly find the failure causes of a isolation valve and provide convenience for maintenance and repair of the isolation valve. In this paper, the key technology of the device is fully research, on the basis of this, finally finish design of the isolation valve test device.Firstly, a systematic research on isolation valve function and its application have been implemented. A summary of the deficiency aiming at isolation valve test device is concluded through analyzing the characteristics and current status of isolation valve test device from study both at home and abroad. Then, a new design idea of the test device is explored. A summary of isolation valve test items are based on studding about the structural characteristics of isolation valve and its potential failure modes.Secondly, according to the test items about isolation valve, the corresponding test method is designed. The air leak test of isolation valve is operating by using the direct pressure test method. And the flow characteristics of isolation valve are testing through the use of a emptying time of the test method. These methods can effectively reduce isolation valve test time and raise the testing efficiency of the test device. It is conducive to the promotion of test device. The pneumatic system of isolation valve test device is designed through these test methods. According to the test technology requirements on isolation valve, its test specification are finished based on the mentioned and it is conducive to test isolation valve.Finally, according to test data of the isolation valve, the test system about the device is designed by using the modern data acquisition technology, in order to facilitate the automatic acquisition and processing of test data on the isolation valve. The system mainly includes the hardware and software subsystems. The hardware system is mainly composed of pressure sensor, a junction box, cable shielding, data acquisition card and IPC. It is the understructure of the test system. At the same time, the design test system software is finished by the VB programming technology. With the function of hardware system, the test system has some functions, such as the automatic data acquisition, processing and printing output. And the desired effect of isolation valve test device is achieved.
