The bogie is one of the most important components ofhigh speed train, it has the role of absorbing the forces and impact generated by the wheel and rail, it also provides the traction force and braking force by the wheel/rail friction, and plays a great effect on the vehicle running stability and safety. In recent years, more and more EMU trains are putting into operation, a high performance of maintenance and reliability of bogie becomes urgent, bogie maintenance is the most important part during the maintenance of high speed train, but at great expense. Therefore, the study on bogiereliability and maintenance is of important significance.Firstly, recentstudieson the reliability and maintenance of the railway vehicle both in China and abroad were reviewed in this paper. Secondly, the operation of EMU trains was investigated and analyzed, and the statistical and survey data of fault forms and frequency of the components in the bogie operation were obtained. Lastly, researches were focused on the wheelset which was the key component, and a dynamic model of the railway vehicle based on the wheel profile measured with line test in a wheel profiling cycle was established to study on the effect of wheel abrasive wear on the vehicle riding quality and running safety. Also the risk of management and the cost in whole-lifecycle were analyzed due to wheel tread wear.Based on the research of the railway bogie reliability and maintenance, the relationship between the equivalent conicity and the vehicle running stability and safety in a wheel profiling cycle was studied through the simulation method. Combined with the dynamics conclusion, an effective approach of themaintenance of wheelsetwas suggested within the perspective of the equivalent conicity management. Meanwhile, based on the four principles of ECRS,the flow process diagram was used to analyze and optimize the wheelset maintenance process and the study results could provide a reference and basis for the operation and maintenance of train bogie.
