Acted as the drinking water supply of capital, Beijing water source protection area holds a significant duty to ensure the safety of the residents of the capital. Water resource protection zone is located in the mountainous area of Beijing, where exists serious soil erosion in some areas, and there are security risks; due to the water resource protection problem, the local village has been failed to develop, Environment there is dirty and messy, sewage water is discharged indiscriminately, serious shortage of infrastructure and public service facilities, rural living environment urgently needs to be improved.Through comparative study method and case study method, for the dual demand of protectly water source protection zones, this artical puts forward a new method of improving the rural living environment in water source area "by taking small watershed as a unit, people-oriented, combined with ecological clean small watershed management measures to improve the local living environment" taking small watershed in Hexi, Miyun, Beijing for example. Analyzing the local living environment through social economy, natural environment, land use, infrastructure, living condition ect. According to the factor system of living environment, and put forward the measures to improve the living environment of small watershed, combined with ecological-clean watershed. The study shows that this model can significantly improve the rate of sewage disposal in small watershed, improve conserve water, effectively control man-made pollution, increase the vegetation coverage, land use and the output economic crop, improve the income level of farmers, and achieved good ecological benefit, economic benefit and social benefit and contribute to the sustainable development of rural human settlement environment. This model has practical guiding significance for the improvement of rural human settlements in Beijing water source protection area, and it is worth to sum up experience and promote the application.
