Piston ring is one of the important parts of the engine, and whether parameters of piston ring are qualified or not has great influence on the quality of the engine, Therefore, the quality requirements of the piston ring is getting higher and higher, and the detection of the piston ring parameters becomes more and more important.With the learned mechanical knowledge and the good basic theory foundation and the practical internship experience in the factory, the paper have an intuitive understanding of the development and related operation for the piston ring automatic detection device. This study is finished by reading a lot of literature and under the teacher’s careful guidance. This study has a significant importance that the development of the piston ring parameter automatic detection device can check if this piston ring can satisfy the requirements of the parameters or not more accurately, the parameters of the piston ring can be more effective and more stable witch is compared with the manual test,moreover, this detection device can be used widely to meet the market demand.The main content of this research is witch the first step is to comprehensively analysis the application mechanism of the existing piston ring parameter tester. With the foundation of reading lots of related literature and the factories internship process, the design principle and the design scheme of the piston ring automatic detection device is illustrated, and we get the concrete structure model of the piston ring automatic detecting device. The next step is to have the related calculation, selection and installation of main parts of the device including servo motor, ball screw, four position rotary mechanism, servo feed plate rotating mechanism, guide rail, frame, pneumatic device and so on,and using CAD to make its related graphics, to have the preliminary discussion and the study of the device detection system, to analysis the detection process of the the piston ring automatic detecting device, and to classify the detection results on parameters with the piston ring.In this study, a virtual prototype simulation analysis software ADAMS was applied to have kinematics and dynamics analysis of feeding mechanism, to predict the motion performance of the feeding mechanism, to get the motion curve by the send feed and servo motor or feeding push plate and the curve of friction versus time by feeding push plate, and to explore whether the piston ring can reach position of detection more stably and accurately.The piston ring automatic detecting device is developed by this study to detect various parameters of piston ring including flex, ring, high leakage degree, closed gap, radial thickness. This device is well developed and can detect all parameters in the piston ring continuously and automatically. Also, test results will be divided into six categories, which is corresponding with the connecting rods respectively, The measurement results will be fully saved in the form of a database and this database can be used to retrieve the query and generate reports.
