The increasingly enriched operation of architectural forms promote the continuous development of the building. In the process, greatly enriched the form-generation theory to some extent overshadowed the fundamental driving force generating the building. Architectural modeling method become synonymous with architectural creation. The virtuoso of form creation has now become a major marketing tool. In this social context, how to consider the essence of architecture as well as the relationship between architecture and its configuration is of great significance.Program requirements trigger a social process of architectural creation, in which the architects who design tectonic details or create space experience will eventually seek to meet the intended program. If program is the fundamental fact of design, how to develop the design from it is the main purpose of this thesis. This thesis contains three topics for discussion. The first is the theory of ’function’. In the 19th century, the concept of function was introduced into architecture since the buildings have benefited from developing construction technology. Function serves as a fundamental factor in favor of architectural forms. At the same time, the concept of space and program began to sprout and come into the discussion of function which led to that program and space are not the most discussed core concepts. In this thesis, the theoretical trace the origin of’function’became the basis for the next two parts of thesis. Second part is the diagram of program. In the thesis, three aspects of program are examined in order to form a complete theoretical program frame on a comprehensive and objective approach in which the program relationship had been divided into seven categories, the difference between these seven categories give rise to the different configuration construction. The third part is a study for the construction of space configuration. Firstly stated in the thesis is an independent study of the possibility of spatial relations. On this basis, combining the study of program relationships in the previous chapter, a cross study of spatial relationship conducted to explore what the influence a program diagram could have for spatial possibilities. The fundamental purpose is to make sure that the program concept could be established in the space creation, which is the basis for the further develop of the design.
