Boost Power Factor Correction was often used to improve power quality because of its simple topology, high input power factor and low input current ripple. However, there is little literature described in detail about choosing the best control solution for a PFC converter, improving efficiency of the circuit, and reducing the cost of the circuit. For selecting the best design, the operating characteristics and method of three common Boost PFC converters were studied and analyzed in this paperFirstly, the background of the PFC technology was introduced in this paper, which also described the classification, topology and control solution of the PFC technology. The working principle and control mode of the Single-phase Active Boost PFC Converters were analyzed in detail, this paper selected three PFC converters which worked in Continue Current Mode(CCM), Critical Current Mode(CRM), and Frequency Clamped Critical Current Mode(FCCRM) to be studied.Secondly, the theoretical analysis and simulation with Saber, the parameters of the converters are determined, especially, and accordingly the hardware circuits design were completed. At last, the three 300 W experimental prototypes were produced, and the experimental test were done, and experimental results showed that three PFC prototype can achieve a good power factor correction..Finally, the research on the three modes PFC converter input current ripple control mode operating characteristics was analyzed, and the cost of converter device, the whole volume, and efficiency of the circuit was compared which was verified by the prototype experiment. The results showed that CRM PFC converter was more suitable for medium power applications, due to the simple control and low cost; FCCRM PFC converter was more suitable for large and medium power applications, due to the high efficiency, smallsize and simple filter design, and CCM PFC converter was more suitable for high power applications, due to the small amount of harmonic distortion and input current ripple.
