With the increasing risk of traditional fossil energy shortage and environmental pollution, the renewable energy with the clean and renewable characteristics has become the focus of global energy development. In each kind of renewable energy, wind power and photovoltaic power generation technology is the most mature and wildly used one. In China, there has vast territory and abundant wind resources, and the cost of wind power is much lower compared to that of photovoltaic power generation. Thus, wind power becomes one of the most developmental potential renewable energy in our country. In recent years, the installed capacity of wind power is growing rapidly in China. However, the wind power grid generation only occupies a small proportion. This is because the volatility and anti-peak characteristics of wind power will affect the safe and stable operation when connected to the power grid, even cause large-scale blackouts. Energy storage system can convert the excess wind power into another form of energy and store it. While in the peak period of load, the energy storage system can release the storage energy to meet the demand. By this means, the energy storage system provides a new solution to ensure the stable operation of power system, and improve the utilization of wind power. Among the existing energy storage technologies, battery energy storage is the most mature one, and it has a large capacity, without being limited to geographical condition which made it the most suitable for large-scale renewable energy power-grid generation scenario. As the development of energy storage system in our country is still in its infancy, making research on comprehensive evaluation of energy storage system in wind power plant has important practical significance and theoretical value.In this paper, we focus on the application of energy storage system in wind power plants. First of all, the current situation of the development of renewable energy in China is analyzed. And we mainly analyze the status quo and the main problems of wind power and the main problems. Secondly, the existing energy storage technology and the present our country existing wind storage demonstration project operation situation are briefly introduced. We qualitative analyze the function of energy storage system used in wind power plant. Then, through the above analysis, and combine with index construction principles, we establish the comprehensive index system of energy storage system involved technical, economic and social indexes. Furthermore, the entropy value method and gray correlation analysis method are combined to evaluate the comprehensive benefit of different energy storage system with examples. Last, the guarantee mechanism of the development of energy storage system in China is proposed.
